I enjoy looking around in old cemeteries, so some of my favorite places in Mississippi just happen to be "cities of the dead." Not only are there always interesting stories to be discovered, the artwork found on tombstones and mausoleums is often incredible. Unfortunately, I'm not sure we modern folk have continued to memorialize our dead as our ancestors have, opting too often for places that are just easy to mow. These photos are from some of my favorite cemeteries in Mississippi, although there are many others. The top photo is from Greenwood Cemetery in Jackson; in the center is Biloxi; and to the left is the cemetery at Grand Gulf Military Park, probably my favorite of all.
