This is a photo of the Piave Mill Company in Greene County, Miss. near
Leakesville. The company was organized in Gulfport in 1918. The name
Piave probably came from Henry Piaggio, one of the owners, after a river
in Italy. The mill supplied lumber for
his shipbuilding operations at Pascagoula. It was later sold to the
Dantzler Lumber Co. and renamed the Virgin Pine Lumber Company. In 1923,
the mill was leased to a company from Picayune, who enlarged it until
at one time it was the supposedly second largest mill in the world. Info
and photo is from a post from ancestry.com. If you're interested in a lot more information about this, check out http://www.msrailroads.com/Virgin_Pine.htm.
